Our Story

How SEIDO Was Born

Two directors, a pandemic, and a conviction that the simplest solution is often the best.

The Problem

An Industry Built on Misdirection

It started in 2020. The world had come to a halt. Like millions of others, we found ourselves at home — with time, quiet, and a lot of questions about life. The pandemic had forced a global reckoning with health. People were walking more, eating more carefully, reading labels, asking questions they'd never thought to ask before.

“They weren't innovating. They were renaming. Hexagon cladding. Honeycomb design. Nano-texture bond. New words for the same old chemicals.”

Brand after brand had invented new language to disguise old problems. Impressive-sounding terms, carefully engineered to make consumers feel they were buying something genuinely different. Pull back the marketing, and underneath was still a synthetic chemical coating — just rebranded.

And it wasn't only the pans. Chopping boards marketed as natural wood — sealed with solvent-based adhesives. Cast iron given a factory finish with bleached oils. The health-conscious consumer, doing their research, was being misled at almost every turn.

The Founding Moment

The Simplest Solution

Cooking had always been personal. But when a family member was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and one of us became the main chef at home, it stopped being just a pastime. Every meal had weight. We wanted what went into that food to be clean. Safe. Simple.

“Stainless steel. No coatings. No additives. It lasts forever. That's not a compromise — that's the entire point.”

We kept coming back to the same conclusion. 304 18/10 stainless steel contains no coatings, no additives, nothing that leaches into your food. It's been trusted in professional kitchens for decades. It lasts a lifetime. You can put it in the dishwasher, drop it on the floor, and it won't chip, crack, shed, or lose anything. It simply works.

So we started. Not with a factory or a million-pound investment — with a few hundred pounds, a knife sharpener, and the conviction that there was a better way. The name SEIDO is rooted in the Japanese concept of precision — and precision is at the heart of everything we do.

The Journey

From First Product to National Brand

We sourced samples. We tested them obsessively — this one didn't pour right, that handle didn't feel balanced, the weight was off, the weld wasn't clean. We sent things back. We started again.

SEIDO is still growing. We're a small, founder-led brand with a clear eye on where we're going — from a single Amazon UK channel to direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and US expansion. But the conviction that started this hasn't changed.
